About

Kaarin’s immense talent and ability are only surpassed by her large heart and gracious demeanor. She adds so much to everything she undertakes. She is a dependable, gifted, and gracious musical colleague, and she goes above and beyond what is required. There have been times when I don’t know what I would have done without her. Kaarin communicates through her music. You won’t find a better or more passionate musician.

Beginning in the fall of 2016, The Record Studio will be on a two year hiatus. Ms. Leach has returned to her alma mater (Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ) to complete a Master of Music degree in Piano Accompanying and Coaching. Private Piano Lessons

25 years ago, The Record Studio began offering high-quality private piano instruction. Acceptance into the studio requires passing an audition; the majority of students in the studio are advanced, with occasional availability for intermediate students. Each year, the students participate in formal recitals, adjudications, competitions, theory tests, and community service events. Many of Ms. Leach's students have gone on to major in music and performance at the collegiate level.

Collaborative Piano and Accompanying

Ms. Leach is sought after for accompanying and performance engagements because of her musicality, reliability, and consistency. With her undergraduate degree from Westminster Choir College and additional studies at Princeton University, her bachelor degree is in Music Education, with an emphasis on Piano and Voice Performance. She has had the incredibly fortunate experience to be on stage under the direction of such conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Riccardo Muti, James Levine, and Zubin Mehta at halls including Juilliard, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center. Vocal performances also include lead roles such as Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors" and Grace Farrell in "Annie”. She has a Master of Science in Computers completed through California State University in 2004.

Ms. Leach has studied under two highly respected piano instructors. The first, noted composer and pianist Harold Zabrack (1929-1995), was a composition student of the renowned Nadia Boulanger. Her current piano teacher and mentor is the distinguished Dr. J.J. Penna, who is on faculty at both Westminster and The Juilliard School. Esteemed for his distinctive technique and masterful artistry, Dr. Penna has collaborated with such eminent singers as Kathleen Battle and Denyce Graves, while performing and holding fellowships at prestigious festivals such as Tanglewood Music Center and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

With over 25 years of public school choral directing, Kodály-based general music teaching, accompanying, private piano teaching, and church music ministry, she has conducted and accompanied countless performances and shows and has written dozens of choral and small ensemble arrangements. She has never considered what she does to be a job; her work is her passion and she feels honored to always be sitting in “the best seat in the house”.

Besides being an amazing collaborative pianist, Kaarin Record Leach always went above and beyond what was required. Whether it was assisting with warm-ups/rehearsal or jumping in to chaperone, she always found a way to make it happen while maintaining a warm, positive environment for the students. Mrs. Leach also proved to be an invaluable resource for me as a new teacher through her knowledge and encouragement.
